If you have learnt some Java before but not much or a long time ago, the explanations in the books are okay. For my taste it is rather to much explanation and some things are repeated to often, but probably that's better than the other way round. Every chapter ends with a summary and exam essentials, which I do not find particular helpful, and, more important, review questions. In the appendix you will find the solutions of the review questions with explanations for all the options (the questions are multiple choice) why they are right or wrong.If you just want to learn Java, this is probably not the best book to choose. If you want to prepare for the certificate, working with this book is probably the best way, if you don't want to pay a lot of money for a course. I have not taken the exam yet, but I am pretty sure it will be no problem to pass it. On the other hand I am as well sure, I will have to learn a lot more and probably get some other Java books, once I actually start working with Java.
(Vorbemerkung: Ich lese das Buch als C++-Programmierer mit wenig bis keinen Java-Vorkenntnissen)Gut: Fuer die Zertifizierung wahrscheinlich unumgaenglich, in der Abdeckung relativ vollstaendig. Positiv sind auch die online-Tests.Aber folgende Kritikpunkte stossen auf:- Meiner Meinung nach unnoetig jovialer Schreibstil, bei dem gleichzeitig noch teilweise unpraezise Formulierungen oder Schilderungen zustande kommen. Fuer eine Pruefung moechte man wissen, was Sache ist und das moeglichst kompakt.- Etwas zu viele Erklaerungen drumherum (schliesslich ist das Buch eigentlich laut Selbstbeschreibung fuer Leute mit Vorkenntnissen)- Aergerliche und unnoetige Fehler machen offensichtlich, dass nicht die groesste Sorgfalt bei der Erstellung vorherrschte (z.B. Tippfehler, offensichtlich nicht korrekturgelesene Saetze (doppelte Verben u. ae.), falsche Antworten zu den Testfragen (teilweise offensichtlich, da die Antworterklaerung der angegebenen Loesung widerspricht))Fazit: fuer die Zertifizierung in Ordnung, um Java zu lernen wohl eher maessig empfehlenswert.
Dieses Buch unumgänglich um sich auf die Zertifizierung vorzubereiten. Das ist dann auch der einzige Grund, warum man es kaufen sollte.Um Java zu verstehen gibt es wesentlich bessere Werke. Angeblich soll der Vorgänger für Version 7 sehr gut gewesen sein, kann ich nicht beurteilen. Wenn dem so ist, frage ich mich wie die Qualität derlei sinken konnte.Die Struktur des Buches ist sehr unvorteilhaft, man findet manche Fehler und die Erklärungen sind nicht immer verständlich bzw. unvollständig. Man kann auswendig lernen was einem präsentiert wird, aber die dahinterstehenden Konzepte erahnt man bestenfalls.
das Buch hat mich auf die Prüfung "1Z0-808 - Java SE 8 Programmer I" sehr gut vorbereitet, ich habe das Examen im Dezember 2016 abgelegt. Es werden viele Details und Grenzfälle in Java behandelt, die vielleicht in der praktischen Arbeit nicht so relevant sind, aber für das theoretische und vollständige Verständnis der Sprache wichtig sind.
Dieses Buch ist auf den Punkt und erklärt, was Sie wissen müssen. Ich arbeite mit Java seit vielen Jahren, aber ich bin aber noch nicht zertifiziert.Ich mag dieses Buch sehr. Sie lehren, was Sie wissen müssen. Nicht mehr und nicht weniger und was Sie auf Ihrem Prüfung erwarten können (dass letzte is das wichtigste). Es behandelt auch die spezifischen Java 8 Funktionen wie LocalTime und ein bischen über Lambdas.Das Buch ist in englischer Sprache. Für mich ist das einfacher als deutsch ;-)
Persönlich fand ich das Buch zwar verständlich aber etwas unübersichtlich gestaltet.Es hat mir als Vorbereitungslektüre auf jeden Fall sehr geholfen.
Die Ausführungen und Beispiele im Buch finde ich gut und sehr hilfreich für die OCA-Prüfungsvorbereitung. Daher kann ich das Buch nur empfehlen.
zu meinem Hintergrund: Diplominformatiker (MS Computer Science) vor alenger Zeit Smalltalk und C++ HintergrundHabe Java "zum Spass" gemacht, um mal zu schauen, ob man noch "hacken kann"Bei der Vorbereitung des OCA 1Z0-808 Examens ist mir an dem Buch (und an Java) so einiges aufgefallen(1) um mit etwas positivem anzufangen - die Themengebiete des OCA Examens deckt das Buch im wesentlichen ab Es gibt in den Probeexamen von Enthuware und auch im echten allerdings jede Menge Fragen, zu denen man die Antworten in dem Buch vergeblich suchen wird(2) was auch andere angemerkt haben - für jemanden, der sich mit Sprachdefinitionen auskennt teilweise recht wenig formal was auch zu ganz konkreten Fehlern führen kann - im schlechtesten Fall im Examen(3) Besonders verbesserungswürdig - die Kapitel-"Examen" .. die sind teilweise frustrierend, weil man schwer über 50% kommt (längere Story). Ebenso die Mock-Exams. Die sind nicht wirklich realitätsnah. Tipp: In Enthuware-Mock-Exams investieren. Die sind exzellent!(4) wenn es um die Ecken und Kanten von Java geht, die in den Examen aber bis zum Exzess abgefragt werden, komplett unzureichend: Zum Beispiel: Promoting von primitiven Typen, Auto-Boxing, Matching-Algorithmus für überladene Methoden - das versteht man erst ansatzweise, wenn man durch Zufall nachliest, dass Java 8 die x-te Version ist und Dinge erweitert wurden, die dann aufwärtskompatibel bleiben mussten.Etwas Geschichte von java würde also helfen, weniger "reinzufallen", weil man dann versteht, warum Konstrukte "krumm" sind und die Sprache in Version 8 alles andere als orthogonal und elegant ist.Fazit: Nützlicher Baustein für die Vorbereitung - könnten die Autoren noch stark verbessern - für eine sinnvolle Vorbereitung braucht man noch mehr. Alleine auf das Buch sollte man sich besser nicht verlassen.
